Description: The Lolo Trail extends 155-165 miles in a northeast-southwest direction. The eastern terminus is the confluence of Lolo Creek with the Bitterroot River near the village of Lolo, Montontana, about 11 miles south of Missoula. The western terminus is Weippe Prairie, in Idaho. Coordinates incomplete.
History: The Lolo Trail is an ancient Indian route that follows the ridgetops parallel and to the north of Highway 12. During the Nez Perce War of 1877, Chief Joseph and nearly 750 Nez Perce fled General Howard's army along this trail to reach the Bitterroot Valley.
