History: | George Blackmon was with a group of approx. 60 men, both freed blacks and white men, at the mouth of this creek. It was on the Fourth of July, possibly 1882 or 1883. They were all looking for gold. Someone shot a large bull elk and they had a feast, and the entire group decided to call the creek Fourth of July Creek (Idaho Statesman, Sunday, August 8, 1971). |
